Friuli Venezia Giulia wines and food tour Itinerary 1 – A range of flavors that awaken the senses
Through its food and wine tradition it is possible to discover the thousand facets of this region. Friuli Venezia Giulia’s dishes express the cooking tradition of far-off cultures. As a consequence, the main characteristic of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s cooking is its extreme variety: world famous cold cuts, fresh and aged cheeses, first courses in which new sensations are experienced and seafood.
In Friuli Venezia Giulia there are eight D.O.C. (Denomination of Controlled Origin) areas that produce 100 million bottles a year: worldwide famous white wines, full-bodied red wines and dessert wines. Wine tourists will be left breathless.
DAY 1: Venice Airport/Gradisca d’Isonzo
Arrival at Venice Airport. Meet & greet by our local staff. Transfer to Gradisca d’Isonzo. Welcome drink with Ribolla Gialla. Relax in your comfortable room. Dinner in hotel. Overnight.
DAY 2: Gradisca d’Isonzo/Gorizia/San Floriano del Collio/Gradisca d’Isonzo
Buffet breakfast. At 09:00 am meet your local guide and start to explore the town of Gradisca d’Isonzo. Lunch free. In the afternoon move to Gorizia for the visit of city that was divided in two parts at the end of WW2, a place where you can stay with one foot in Italy and the other in Slovenia. After the city sightseeing, we will visit a winery in San Floriano del Collio (wine tasting). Procede to hotel and relax in your comfortable room. Dinner in hotel. Overnight.
DAY 3: Gradisca d’Isonzo/Redipuglia/Duino/Carso/Gradisca d’Isonzo
Buffet breakfast. At 09:00 am meet your local guide and excursion to Redipuglia and the Carso hills. There will be possible to walk in the WW1 trenches, to climb on the Redipuglia War Memorial (the largest in Italy), a giant stairway in remembrance to all young soldiers who died and during the various Battles on the Isonzo river in WW1. Lunch free. In the afternoon we will procede to Duino a to visit the encantable castle. In the late afternoon we will visit the famous winery “Castelvecchio” located in the Carso area (wine tasting) and then dinner in a traditional “Trattoria”. Return to hotel and overnight.
DAY 4: Gradisca d’Isonzo/Aquileia/Grado/San Michele del Carso/Gradisca d’Isonzo
Buffet breakfast. At 09:00 am meet your local guide and excursion to Aquileia the ancient Roman city and capital of the Patriarch. Visit of the famous archeological site and the local museum. Before lunch visit of the incredible bisantinian Basilica. Lunch free. In the afternoon we will move to the medieval fisherman’s town of Grado for a walking tour along the narrow roads, filled with the history of Northern Adriatic. On the way back, we will visit the wine cellar of “Castello di Rubbia” (wine tasting) and conclude the day with a gourmet experience by celebrating a farewell traditional dinner in the famous Lokanda Devetak. Return to hotel. Overnight.
DAY 5: Gradisca d’Isonzo/Venice Airport
Buffet breakfast. At 9:30 am meet your local assistant and transfer by private motorcoach to the Outlet Palmanova for shopping opportunities. Lunch free. Around 13:00 departure towards Venice Airport in due time for departure flight (if outbound flight is departing before 15:00 the shopping excursion will be cancelled).
