An exciting journey through the beauty of the Piedmont, including fine wine and fabulous food, shopping and beautiful beaches of Portofino.
Day 1: Milan Malpensa or Linate airport/Roero (179 KM/111 MILES)
Arrival at Milan Malpensa or Linate airport and transfer to the Roero area in Piedmont. Accommodation in a deluxe farmhouse at Canale. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Dogliani/Barolo/Grinzane Cavour (84 KM/52 MILES)
Transfer to Dogliani, home to another excellent red d.o.c.g. wine. Visit and tasting at the Dolcetto di Dogliani d.o.c.g. wine shop. Drive to the village of Barolo, giving its name to the worldwide famous Barolo d.o.c.g., also nicknamed “wine of the kings”. Visit and tasting at the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo (Barolo regional cellar) or at a local wine maker premises (tasting may be followed by a typical Piedmontese lunch). Trip goes on to Grinzane Cavour, where you will visit its castle hosting the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour (Cavour Piedmontese regional cellar) and Langhe Museum. Back to Canale, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Canale/Barbaresco/Alba/Monteu Roero (50 KM/31 MILES)
Visit of the Enoteca Regionale del Roero (Roero regional wine cellar) at Canale. Here you will appreciate the most renowned wines of this area, particularly the red Roero d.o.c.g. and the white Roero Arneis d.o.c.g. produced from Roero grapes cultivated on the hills around Canale. Transfer to Barbaresco, giving its name to one of the best red d.o.c.g. wine, nicknamed “the wine of queens” according to an old saying. Visit and tasting at the Enoteca Regionale del Barbaresco (Barbaresco regional cellar). Drive to Alba, the “capital” of the Langhe, a beautiful medieval city home to the famous white truffle and the “round mild nut”, basic ingredient of Nutella, the worldwide famous nut and cocoa cream produced by the Ferrero company, which has its headquarters here. Trip goes on to the village of Monteu Roero with a visit of a typical food store (www.brezzo.it), producer of “top quality food ideas” (honey, truffle delicacies, salami, cheeses, pasta and much more). Back to Canale, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Govone/Canelli/Nizza Monferrato/Gavi (115 KM/72 MILES)
Transfer to the village of Govone to visit its majestic castle, a former summer residence of the Savoy, the royal family who ruled Italy from its unification in 1861 till the birth of the current republic in 1946. Drive to the village of Canelli, home to the Asti D.O.C.G., the best-selling Italian wine abroad, made with sweet Moscato grapes with the champenois method, the same used in the production of Champagne in France, adapted to this sweet wine. Drive across the hills covered by vineyards of the impressive Monferrato area and visit of a winery and cellar to get a full knowledge of this wine and of course, a taste of it! Afterwards, transfer to nearby Nizza Monferrato and visit of the Bersano wine cellars and old farm tools museum, displaying a collection of top quality wines, including Barbera d’Asti d.o.c.g. and Barbera del Monferrato d.o.c.g.. Trip continues towards Gavi where you will get to in the evening. Accommodation in a deluxe country inn, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Gavi/Ovada/Acqui Terme (90 KM/56 MILES)
Today you will get to know everything about the Gavi D.O.C.G., probably the most renowned white wine of Piedmont. Visit of the village of Gavi, its fort and its main wine cellar and shop. Drive through the hills and vineyards where the Gavi grapes are cultivated. Drive towards Acqui Terme through the Ovada hills, where the grapes used to make the red Dolcetto di Ovada d.o.c.g. are cultivated. The historic town of Acqui Terme, founded in Roman age, is not just the most popular spa resort in Piedmont but also the production centre of the Brachetto di Acqui, the first sweet red Italian wine that got the D.O.C.G. (the top rank awarded to wines in Europe). You will visit the Enoteca Regionale Acqui “Terme e Vino” (regional cellar Acqui Spa and Wine) and taste this excellent wine, perfect to be consumed with desserts or fruit salads. Back to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Shopping day at Serravalle Outlet
Shop till you drop at nearby Serravalle designer outlet, probably the largest in Europe. You will be spoilt for choice with 180 shops to buy from, where you can find all the Italian and international top fashion brands. Back to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Gavi/Portofino/Gavi (180 KM/112 MILES)
A day out on the beach! Drive to nearby Ligurian Riviera and visit of the beautiful resort of Portofino. Its harbour and bay is considered to be one of the most impressive and characteristic of all the Mediterranean Sea coasts, a place chosen by many international film producers to shoot their movies. Portofino is also the center of a marine reserve including also the resorts of Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure. A perfect place to relax on the beach or explore the stunning beauty of the coastline. Transfer back to hotel in the evening, dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Gavi/Milan Malpensa or Linate airport (142 KM/88 MILES)
Transfer to Milan Malpensa or Linate airport and end of our services.
